De Oost /The East is a Dutch war drama set in Indonesia 1946. A young Dutch soldier goes there thinking he’ll ‘help people’, but ends up joining a ruthless commander and gets trapped in moral conflict. It’s heavy, brutal, and makes you question duty vs conscience during colonial war

The film was directed by Jim Taihuttu and stars Martijn Lakemeir, Marwan Kenzari, Jonas Smulders, and Joes Brauers.

The film premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival on September 25, 2020, and was released on Prime Video on May 13, 2021.
